Residency Verification Information
Board policy and the Illinois School Code state that students must live within the district's boundaries in order to attend our schools. To ensure that we are operating in accordance with the law and utilizing taxpayer dollars to educate students from our community, residency must be verified for:
First-time enrolling students;
Families who currently rent, change address, or have an affidavit (must confirm annually); and
Parents/guardians of District 44 students who attend Out of District, CASE CoOp, and SASED (must confirm annually)
Contact your building secretary for the Verification of Residency form. Appointments are required to prove residency and may be arranged by contacting your building secretary.
When asked to prove residency, parents/guardians will be provided with the required Verification of Residency forms by your school office. In completing the paperwork, parents/guardians will need to attach at least one document from List A and two documents from List B (minimum of three documents total):
List A
(minimum of ONE item required)
Homeowners:
Property tax bill
Mortgage papers
Renters:
Original, signed, and dated current lease (signed by landlord/management company) on an annual basis
List B
(minimum of TWO items required)
Current gas, water, or electric bill
Driver's license
Public aid
Vehicle registration
Receipt from moving van rental
Current homeowner's/renter's insurance policy and payment receipt
Please note: If the student’s parent/guardian is not a District 44 resident, the District 44 resident with whom the student is living must submit proof of residency and complete and present an affidavit demonstrating legal custody of the student. The student’s parent/guardian must also complete an affidavit. If a parent/guardian or the District 44 resident has an issue providing any of the requested documentation, they should work with a building administrator to determine what information needs to be submitted. The district has sole discretion to request additional documentation on a case-by-case basis.
