District 44 Virtual Backpack

District 44 is going "green" by launching a new approach to distribute to our students and families approved information from non-profit organizations, intergovernmental agencies and business partners.

Rather than sending flyers via backpack mail (which previously only took place at the elementary level), we will be posting such information on the District 44 Virtual Backpack webpage for all to see.

Groups wishing to submit information to be posted must do so electronically by emailing:

1) a completed VB Flyer Request Form

2) a PDF of the flyer containing the line "Not a District 44-sponsored activity"

to Mindy Merkle [email protected] at the District 44 Administrative Center at least ten days in advance of the desired posting date. No flyers will be posted the first two weeks nor last two weeks of the school year.

Prior to submitting, please read details regarding our distribution guidelines described below. Materials posted on the VB Page are the responsibility of the organization represented, and endorsement by District 44 is neither direct nor implied.

VB Flyer Distribution Guidelines

District 44 uses a Virtual Backpack Web Page for the distribution of information from non-profit organizations, intergovernmental agencies and business partners which has been previously approved to share with our students and their families.

Groups wishing to submit information to be posted must do so electronically by emailing a completed Virtual Backpack Flyer Request Form and a PDF of the flyer to the District 44 Administrative Center at least ten days in advance of the desired posting date.

The following criteria will apply to all materials submitted for online distribution:

1. Community organizations that are non-profit or not-for-profit will be allowed to post materials on the District 44 VB Web Site. Commercial organizations (zoos, children's theatre, etc) need to submit a rationale seeking permission to distribute materials.

2. All activities or information must be appropriate for students. Activities should relate to a school function, event or purpose, or relate to an agency that offers widely appealing recreational program options for students.

3. Activities should not conflict with public tax-supported efforts already in effect.

4. Activities should accommodate a community-wide need and must be significant for the portion of the population served by the boundaries of District 44.

5. Application should be made ten days prior to the distribution date and one copy of the proposed announcement must accompany the request for distribution.

6. An organization should attempt to limit their requests to one per month.

7. The District will not endorse anything that requires fund-raising or solicitation for membership in local service organizations.

8. All flyers/posters should contain the phrase: "Not a District 44-sponsored activity."

9. If a request for flyer/poster distribution is building specific, the approval only needs to come from that individual building principal and will be posted on that school's Virtual Backpack site or, at the middle school, Family Access.

10. Multiple school requests must be approved through the District 44 Administration Center.

NOTE: MATERIALS ARE POSTED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. THIS DOES NOT IMPLY DISTRICT 44's ENDORSEMENT OF THEM.

  3. SAVE the completed form to your desktop.
  4. Attach the completed form to an email AND a PDF of the flyer you wish to have posted and send to: Mindy Merkle at [email protected].

If you have any questions, contact Mindy Merkle at 630.827.4400.

TIP:

Do you use a Mac? We've encountered problems when Macs, by default, use the Mac program Preview to open PDF files. We need to tell your computer to use Adobe Reader to open the Request Form PDF file.

Save the D44 Request Form to your desktop so it is easy to see.

Right click on the file saved on your desktop > Get Info > in the Open With section drop down box choose Adobe Reader.app

Now your computer/device opens our Request Form PDF with Adobe Reader. You will be able to fill out the form, save it and email it back to D44. It will arrive with all your information viewable and D44 will be able to add our approval and return the form to you for your records as well.
