Dear District 44 Families,
Since Halloween, we have been carefully reviewing our internal data and have seen a rise in our student absenteeism rates. While this is a positive indication of families taking seriously our self-certification requirement, it also does give us concern as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday break.
Therefore, in an effort to proactively address what we know will only be a continued trend going into the upcoming holiday, we have made the discussion to implement an adaptive pause for ONE WEEK starting Monday, November 30 through Friday, December 4. This means all students will remote learn during that week, with hybrid learning resuming Monday, December 7.
Our decision to implement an adaptive pause will be temporary and is only to ensure that we can continue providing the safest, healthiest environment possible for our students.
As a school community, we understand that every family has different opinions and approaches to what they feel is appropriate and safe celebrations during the upcoming holiday. Some may completely align with what health officials have recommended; others may completely differ. Regardless, we know there will be differences.
Our Healthy=Hybrid campaign is more than just a slogan that we ask our families to follow. It also demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that when our schools are open, we can guarantee they are healthy and safe for our students. We do not believe we can offer this same level of commitment immediately following Thanksgiving.
We also do take seriously our ability to offer continuity of learning for our students, and any time we are reviewing the potential of implementing an adaptive pause, we want to do so in a manner that allows our families and staff to adequately prepare to ensure learning can go uninterrupted.
While our students are out, we will be using this time to reflect and improve upon our work here in District 44. Therefore, beginning next week, we will be issuing a survey to all of our staff, students and families.
Your input will be carefully evaluated to ensure we are appropriately and accurately addressing the needs in our schools and buildings, as well as your own individual needs.
In the meantime, please continue to stay safe and healthy.
